Untitled As a second-year OSU student and a native of Columbus, the downtown area was particularly familiar to Avi Kuga, and although she'd walk past the street many times before, she never quite understood the history of the spot. It was a mere parking lot now; a resting place for machinery while their owners played and danced in the city's lights and Avi, unusually, joined the company of the cars for the first time, pondering the place.
"It's kinda creepy," she mumbled to herself, chewing on a cupcake for comfort and clutching a cheap bag of tacos for it's brief warmth. It wasn't the parking lot she found particularly creepy, but the parking lot's history; it's "ghost" of sorts. For before the parking lot there was The Ohio State Penitentiary.

Abandoned ChapelThe parish waits now,
the loneliness of corners
crawling outward on walls--
chipped away by the wind,
and held together
by silk spindles;
cobwebs align them like the membranes of memories,
the cut of a jewel in an broken window
against the sun
where beads of rain
gather in a mesh of strands
a new Mosaic
against the backdrop of a cemetery;
My eyes seek out the sermon
in close proximity,
paint no distance
between headstone and cloud;
elegies topple each other
in their climb to heaven
as light trickles
over the shade,
breathes a new glow over snuffed candles.
I feel the weight in these empty rows,
how a breath couldn't cease to be breath
in the midst of prayer.
